Opening Remarks for 2026

Welcome Back!

We have had several losses this past winter.  Donna Ewing, husbands of Sandra Maas and Sarah Watson. Our sympathies and condolences to all those who have lost someone this past winter.

Please reply to Sandra (do not reply to everyone) to let her know if you wish to continue to play this summer in the Wednesday league.  Also let us know if you wish your name to be posted on the website for possible golf on non-league days.

Once you have indicated you would like to play in the Wednesday league, your name will appear in weekly groupings on the website, unless you have told us you will not be playing that Wednesday.  This information needs to be given to Sandra (sass_34@hotmail.com) or texted to Sandra at 519-291-7320 by the Saturday prior to the Wednesday.  Groupings are sent to the pro shop on Sunday.  Groupings will be posted on our website (wedladiesgolf.ca).  Any changes after Sunday can be made by contacting Sandra.  Same day cancellations will need to be made to Sandra and the pro shop.  

A number of items were discussed at last year’s closing lunch. A quick review will be given here.  More detail can be found in the closing notes on the website.

Points:  ½ points for double bogies will remain.  Many of us rely on the ½ points to get our quota.

Score Cards:  When the weekly game is calculated for payouts, the gross scores are used.  The points are calculated and compared to the points on the card.  Please make sure the gross score and points match for each hole.  The total gross score is less important than each individual hole score. Please remember that pace of play is important. There is no need to record a gross score greater than double bogey.

Cards can be dropped off at J-62 or by photo to ds-taylor@earthlink.net. Please do not leave the cards at the pro shop.  Daphne does not receive texts.  Please call or email if you need to contact her.

Payouts:  $3/game will continue to be collected virtually.  Winnings are posted weekly on the website.  Money owed or earned will be paid out at the closing lunch.

Website:  It was decided at last year’s closing lunch that an annual fee per player will be collected at the closing lunch to maintain our existing website and use. The annual cost is estimated at $10/player.

Trophy System:  Please remember that the trophies have no impact on the net monies received or given out.  Trophies were established only to encourage play into September and add some fun and interest to the season’s closing, similar to the FedEx Cup (without the million-dollar reward).  To keep it interesting for both regular and irregular players a two-tiered trophy system was developed based on how many games the players had played to the end of August.

Special Games:  It was suggested that we give bonus quota points and/or money for those who make chip-ins, sand saves, hole-in-ones, etc.  If someone is willing to collect a separate fund and manage it for such events, that would be welcome.

Rules Sheet:  A rules sheet for the league is being developed.  After it has been reviewed and finalized, it will be posted on the website.
