As in past years, this is where we review the season, collect and hand out the season’s winnings, celebrate our trophy winners, and take our group and trophy winners’ photos.
The Numbers
Similar to last year, we completed 19 scheduled games. One scheduled game early in the season was not played because of rain, and our closing points game was abbreviated because of rain. This resulted in an alternative payout comparing each player’s average points accumulated over the holes completed compared to their average points quote over 18 holes.
This season, we averaged 16 ladies each week. The fewest was 12, and the most was 22. We used 3 tee times once, 6 tee times twice, and 4 and 5 tee times eight times. These statistics help to determine how many tee times we require for next season. 17 games were played on the Links course, and 2 games were played on the Lake course.
Collectively, we played the most games yet, 304. Virtually, we collected $912.
The Money
The highest net winner won $21 and the most anyone had to pay was $21. 12 ladies won money over the course of the season. 14 ladies didn’t. Collectively, $78 exchanged hands.
Recruiting
We had many new players this year, and three new women joined us for our final golf day. We look forward to them joining our league next year. Anybody wanting to join, please send an email to Sandra at sass_34@hotmail.com.
Pairings
Once again, Sandra did an excellent job of setting the pairings each week. If you need to cancel after the pairings have been sent in, please let Sandra know. She will send in changes to the pro shop. Same-day cancellations can be sent to both the pro shop and Sandra.
Sandra has indicated she will be to stepping back from the pairing’s role in 2026. Ethel Goble is considering taking on this role. Both will likely share this position starting in 2026.
Thank you, Sandra, for taking on this role.
Special Games
Marian Baker organized today’s closest to the pin competition.
Closest to the pin winners were Hole 3 Lisa White, Hole 7 Michele Perron, Hole 10 Sandy Cook, and Hole 17 Sonya Hanson. There were 19 players this year, and they all participated in closest to the pin. We collected $76 dollars each winner received $19.
Contact Sheets
We passed a contact sheet around for review and updating. If you are in need of a contact for a league player, you can contact Sandra or Daphne.
A second sheet was passed around to identify those who are available to play golf if needed by a set foursome on non-league days. This information will be posted on the website.
OTHER BUSINESS
The Website
Since 2020, we have been able to post our pairings and results, as well as general information on a website. This was done without cost to our league because we piggybacked on someone’s website provider. Unfortunately, that will no longer be available to the league as of 2027. We do have one more season, 2026, left of free use.
After discussion and a show of hands, it was suggested that an administration fee could be applied to players of the league to maintain our existing website and use. Details on how this will be done will be determined over the winter and announced at the start of the 2026 season.
Our 10th Anniversary 2026
Next year will be our 10th anniversary of the Wednesday Ladies Golf League – Points Game. Ideas are welcome on how to celebrate this accomplishment.
A Rules Sheet
Several people have commented that we should have a rules sheet for the league. I have attempted to start a simplified sheet with help from Sonya Hansen. Over the winter, Ethel Goble and I, and others, will be working on this for presentation at the start of the 2026 season.
Quota bonuses
It has been suggested that we give bonus quota points and/or money to those who make chip-ins, sand saves, holes-in-one, etc.
Unfortunately (speaking for myself), adding this to the existing calculation of points and money would be very difficult. I use formulas that accumulate over the season, and irregular adjustments would be very difficult for me to manage. If someone is willing to collect a separate fund and manage it for such events, that would be very welcome. Or if someone would like to take over the weekly payout calculations to accommodate special bonuses, that would also be very welcome.
Score cards
When the weekly game is calculated for payouts, the gross scores are put into a spreadsheet, and formulas are used to calculate the points. The points calculated by the spreadsheet are compared to the points on the card. If the gross scores (up to and including a double bogy) are not correct on the scorecard, it will not match my spreadsheet points, and problems will occur. When the cards are handed in, please make sure the gross score and points match. Also, please hand in the cards at the house J 62 or by photo and send by email to ds-taylor@earthlink.net. I prefer that they not be left at the pro shop, as it delays my getting them and the payouts being calculated.
Removing the ½ point
There are pros and cons to removing the ½ point. The con being that if you make the ½ point 1, you will have to double all other points to maintain the ratios. Getting rid of the ½ altogether and keeping the other points as is would reduce the number of players in our league, as many of us depend on getting that ½ point to get our quota. The only pro I think is that we don’t have to add the ½ points. Removing the ½ point can be discussed again at the beginning of the 2026 season.
The two-tiered trophy system
There was concern mentioned about the two-tiered trophy system. Please remember that the trophies have no impact on the net monies received or given out. It was established only to encourage play into September and add some fun and interest to the season’s closing, similar to the FedEx (without the million-dollar reward).
To keep it interesting for both regular and irregular players, a two-tiered trophy system was developed based on how many games the players had played to the end of August. In the past, the cut-off was 10 games. This year, because there were so many at the cutoff, it was decided to cut it off at 11 games. A comparison of the end results is below between the two cutoffs.
At the start of the 2026 season, we can discuss this further to see what the consensus is on how these trophies should be used.

A Spring Meet and Greet
A spring meet and greet was suggested. Topics could include
- Introduction of new and returning members and roles
- a review of the points game, scorecards, payouts, etc.
- the Website and the possible administration fee
- The PlayTex Cup Trophies
- The Rules Sheet
- the ½ point
- other business and concerns
The 2025 Trophy Presentation
The winner of the Big PlayTexCup is Donna Dingwall. Donna was leading the gross dollar competition for much of the season. Her gross winnings totaled $72 in 17 games. Congratulations Donna.
The winner of the Little PlayTexCup is Marilyn McQueen. Marilyn was also leading the gross dollar competition for much of the season. She won $46 over 12 games. Congratulations Marilyn.
This year’s PlayTexCup Enthusiast Trophy, which is awarded in memory of Cindy Graham, is given to Carolyn Nixon. Not only was this her first year of play with us, but she also drives here from Durham, then walks the entire course (through sun, heat, wind, cold, and rain), is not a member so pays the Pro Shop each Wednesday, and she has had to pay the most money in the net winnings category. We congratulate you, Carolyn, and hope you return next year and win the Big PlayTexCup!
This year’s Boobie Prize goes to me. We all have had to learn how to play with injuries and age, and I have had my struggles this year as well. And on top of that, I have struggled with posting accurate results on the website. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to look closely at the results and notify me of errors. I would especially like to thank my go-to person, Sandra Bowman, who excels at finding my mistakes and knows just how and when to tell me when I have done something wrong. You are the best friend and proofreader I could ask for.
Thank you, everyone, for a great season of golf. See you in Spring 2026!
